The Dove Evolution video has been out for a while, but it is worth viewing if you haven’t seen it yet, or if you want to refresh your memory. It depicts, with powerful visuals, an average-looking woman being transformed into a billboard-worthy model through make-up, hair styling, lighting, and digital alterations of the photo.
It is true that models have a team of people on the set of a photo shoot to help them look their absolute best. It is also true, though, that they are most often naturally beautiful without all of these things. Take away from this video an understanding of what enhances a model’s beauty in a photograph (hair, make-up, lighting) and the knowledge that photos are often digitally enhanced. But, keep in mind that aspects of this video are exaggerated, compared to what usually happens to a model’s image before the rest of the world sees it.
